Bam Adebayo Drops 83 Points on the Wizards — Second-Highest Scoring Game in NBA History
Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo erupted for 83 points against the Washington Wizards, surpassing Kobe Bryant for the second-highest single-game scoring performance in NBA history. Only Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game remains untouched.
The Quarter-by-Quarter Demolition
Adebayo didn't build to this gradually. He came out possessed. First Quarter: 31 points. That alone would be a standout night for most players. Halftime: 43 points. His previous career-high was 41. He beat it before the break. Third Quarter: 62 points through three. He tied Kobe for the most points through three quarters in modern NBA history. Fourth Quarter: He kept going. The Heat started intentionally fouling the Wizards to get the ball back and give Bam more attempts. They even missed free throws on purpose. The entire team was in on the mission. The Final Stat Line
83 points | 9 rebounds | 3 assists | 2 steals | 2 blocks | 5 turnovers FG: 20-of-43 (46.5%) | 3PT: 7-of-22 (31.8%) | FT: 36-of-43 (83.7%) — NBA Record Both his free throw makes (36) and attempts (43) set new NBA single-game records. The previous record for makes was 28, shared by Wilt Chamberlain and Adrian Dantley. The previous record for attempts was 39, held by Dwight Howard. The All-Time Scoring List (Single Game)
1. 100 points — Wilt Chamberlain, March 2, 1962 2. 83 points — Bam Adebayo, March 10, 2026 ⬅️ 3. 81 points — Kobe Bryant, January 22, 2006 4. 78 points — Wilt Chamberlain, December 8, 1961 5. 73 points — Luka Dončić, January 26, 2024Why This Matters
Bam Adebayo came into Tuesday night averaging 18.9 points per game. He was known primarily as one of the league's best defenders — a first-team All-Defense anchor, a playmaking big man, someone you praised for everything except scoring volume. His previous career-high was 41 points. He doubled that. And then some. This wasn't a guard getting hot from three. This was a center — a legitimate, rim-protecting, screen-setting center — taking over a game in a way that defied every expectation of his skillset. He drew 43 free throw attempts, knocked down 7 threes (he averages about one per game), and scored from every level of the floor. He also surpassed LeBron James for the highest-scoring game in Miami Heat franchise history. LeBron's record was 61 points against Charlotte in 2014.The Wizards Factor
Washington is in full tank mode this season, one of the league's most obvious lottery-bound teams. But context only goes so far — nobody in the modern NBA had ever scored 83 against any opponent. The Wizards simply had a front-row seat to history. After the game, Adebayo posed for a photo holding a basketball with "83" written on it — the same way Kobe did with his "81" ball twenty years ago. That image will live forever. Some nights in the NBA, you just witness something that doesn't make sense. Tuesday night in Miami was one of those nights. Bam Adebayo scored 83 points. Read that again. It still doesn't feel real.Tags
