DJ Akademiks Says He 'Understands' Why Stefon Diggs Cheated on Cardi B — And Fans Aren't Having It

Akademiks weighed in on the Cardi B and Stefon Diggs breakup during a livestream, saying he understood why Diggs was tempted. The internet had thoughts.
DJ Akademiks has once again inserted himself into a conversation nobody asked him to join — and this time, it's about Cardi B and Stefon Diggs.
During a recent livestream, the media personality weighed in on the couple's widely-reported breakup, offering a take that drew immediate backlash online. While acknowledging Cardi's attractiveness and success, Akademiks said he "understood" why Diggs may have been tempted by other women.
"You see two or three of that man's girls and be like, I can understand why he's messing with them on the side," Akademiks said on stream, adding that while Cardi "still holds the top spot," Diggs' alleged side partners were also attractive.
The comments spread quickly across social media, with fans tearing into Ak for essentially justifying infidelity.
The Cardi B and Stefon Diggs Timeline
The breakup between Cardi B and the New England Patriots receiver has been one of the biggest celebrity stories of the year. The couple went public with their relationship in 2025 and welcomed a child together shortly after.
Cracks began showing around Super Bowl weekend in February 2026. Cardi appeared at the festivities and even made a cameo during Bad Bunny's halftime performance, but fans noticed she didn't stay to watch Diggs and the Patriots finish the game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Soon after, both unfollowed each other on Instagram — the modern-day equivalent of serving divorce papers. The speculation was confirmed when Cardi addressed the situation at a concert shortly after.
"You can't be out here playing with a woman like me," she told the crowd. "There's people out here praying for someone like me. I'm too grown to be played with."
The clip went nuclear online, with fans assuming it was aimed squarely at Diggs. Cardi later walked it back on X, saying the remarks were just performance energy and lyrics from her music: "Dear blogs, when I perform a song I always introduce it with a little razzle dazzle. Not everything is a shot or personal."
Why Akademiks' Take Missed the Mark
What makes Akademiks' commentary frustrating isn't just the content — it's the pattern. Time and again, the media personality positions himself as an impartial commentator while consistently offering takes that minimize accountability for men in high-profile relationships.
Saying you "understand" why someone cheated, while praising the person they cheated on, is the kind of contradictory logic that only makes sense in the content-farm economy where hot takes equal clicks.
To his credit, Akademiks has always been transparent about playing the role of provocateur. But when the subject involves a woman who just had a child with someone and was publicly humiliated during one of the biggest sporting events of the year, the line between commentary and callousness gets thin.
Cardi handled it with more grace than most would have. Whether the concert remarks were aimed at Diggs or not, her message landed: she knows her worth. And no amount of Akademiks' livestream analysis changes that.
