Fortnite Just Dropped a GTA-Style Open World Mode and It Looks Insane
A full GTA-style open world is coming to Fortnite on March 14, built with Epic MegaGrants support and Unreal Engine 5.
If you can't wait for GTA 6, Fortnite might have you covered - at least temporarily.
Developer JOGO announced Grand Heist City, a full open-world crime game built entirely inside Fortnite using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), dropping March 14. The mode features everything you'd expect from a GTA-inspired experience: car chases, heists, an explorable city, and the kind of chaos that made Rockstar's franchise legendary.
The project was built with support from Epic MegaGrants, which means this isn't some janky fan creation - it's a legitimate, funded production running on Unreal Engine 5 tech inside Fortnite's ecosystem.
What makes this interesting isn't just the mode itself - it's what it represents. Fortnite has evolved from a battle royale into a full gaming platform. Racing games, RPGs, horror experiences, and now open-world crime sims are all living inside one launcher. Epic's bet on UEFN as a creative platform is paying off in ways nobody predicted.
The timing is also perfect. With GTA 6 confirmed for fall 2026, the gaming community is starving for that open-world crime fix. Grand Heist City won't replace Rockstar's vision, but it shows that the creative community isn't waiting around.
Grand Heist City launches March 14 inside Fortnite Creative.
