NFL Free Agency Bombshell: Mike Evans Leaves Tampa Bay for the 49ers in $60M Deal
After 12 legendary seasons with the Buccaneers, Mike Evans signs a three-year, $60.4 million deal with San Francisco — plus the Maxx Crosby trade that fell apart.
The 2026 NFL free agency period has delivered blockbuster after blockbuster, but none hit harder than this: Mike Evans, the greatest wide receiver in Tampa Bay Buccaneers history, is heading west to join the San Francisco 49ers.
Evans agreed to a three-year deal worth up to $60.4 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The move ends a 12-season run with the Bucs that included six Pro Bowl selections, 866 career catches, and a Super Bowl ring.
A New Chapter in the Bay
For the 49ers, Evans represents a proven elite weapon to pair with their already potent offense. At 32, he's still one of the most reliable red-zone threats in the league, and San Francisco is betting that his championship pedigree will be the missing piece in their pursuit of another Lombardi Trophy.
"This is the kind of move that changes the entire landscape of the NFC," one NFL analyst noted.
The Maxx Crosby Saga
Meanwhile, the biggest non-move of free agency was the Maxx Crosby trade that wasn't. The Las Vegas Raiders had reportedly agreed to send the dominant pass rusher to the Baltimore Ravens in a blockbuster deal — until the plug was pulled on Tuesday. Crosby took to social media with a simple message: "I'm a Raider."
The fallout from the collapsed trade sent the Ravens scrambling, eventually pivoting to sign edge rusher Trey Hendrickson instead.
Other Major Moves
The free agency frenzy also saw Daniel Jones re-sign with the Indianapolis Colts, Jaelan Phillips ink a deal with the Carolina Panthers, and Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III become one of the rare MVPs to immediately switch teams. The landscape of the NFL is shifting fast, and we're only getting started.
