Rockstar Games just made a move nobody saw coming - and it might be the biggest hint yet about where GTA is headed.

On March 5, Rockstar announced an official partnership with 2K Games to bring NBA 2K26 to the GTA+ Games Library on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Starting March 10 through April 20, GTA+ subscribers get the full NBA 2K26 game plus an exclusive content pack including 5,000 VC, skill boosts, and GTA Online basketball-themed outfits.

This is historic. NBA 2K26 is the first non-Rockstar game ever added to GTA+. Since launching in 2022, the subscription service has exclusively featured Rockstar titles - GTA III, Vice City, Bully, LA Noire, Red Dead Redemption. Adding a 2K title shatters that wall and signals something much bigger.

Both Rockstar and 2K sit under the Take-Two Interactive umbrella, and the corporate synergy here is impossible to ignore. Take-Two also owns the Borderlands franchise, Civilization, XCOM, and BioShock. If this NBA 2K26 deal performs well, industry analysts expect GTA+ could evolve into a full Take-Two super bundle - directly competing with EA Play, Ubisoft+, and Xbox Game Pass.

The GTA 6 Basketball Theory

Fans are already connecting dots. With GTA 6 set in Vice City (Miami) and launching November 19, 2026, the basketball crossover has the community buzzing. Could this be Rockstar testing the waters for playable basketball in GTA 6? The franchise has included mini-games before - tennis, golf, darts - but a full 2K-powered basketball mode would be unprecedented.

Whether that theory pans out or not, one thing is clear: Rockstar is no longer operating in its own silo. The walls between Take-Two's studios are coming down, and GTA+ is becoming the vehicle for that convergence.
